About

Dawid Huczyński

I am a fully licensed architect (Polish building qualifications, without restrictions) and a software developer. For more than a decade I have been working where design, data and software meet. I started in architectural offices in Wrocław and Reykjavík; today I automate processes in construction and energy.

Today

Since 2024 I have been the BIM and automation expert and R&D lead at Atlas Ward Polska, a general contractor. I lead company-wide process automation and projects where BIM meets IT, and I coordinate cross-department projects. There are already many examples of shortening work in areas such as bidding and BIM coordination. One R&D process went from three days of manual work to a three-hour verification pipeline.

In parallel I run Leysa, an engineering practice that connects energy, construction and data: automated PV farm control at negative energy prices, production plans for grid operators, GIS analysis for renewables, BIM automation and AI adoption.

I like the word wildcard: someone with a wide range of skills. 3D transformations, point clouds, georeferencing, programming, IFC analysis, web development and project management are all part of my day, often within a single task.

Story

Born in Wrocław, I have lived in Brzeg, Wrocław, Dresden and Reykjavík. I studied Architecture and Urban Planning at Wrocław University of Science and Technology and at TU Dresden. On my journeys, short and longer ones, I have met many unique people and gathered plenty of memories.

Architecture

From 2011 to 2019 I designed at Tendra Arkitektur (Reykjavík), R2 Biuro Projektów Lesław Rubik and Studio Architektoniczne FOLD (Wrocław). I worked on projects such as Sky Tower in Wrocław, Galeria Głogovia, a BASF plant, the 40Femti complex in Sola, the High Five sports hall in Stavanger, an aquapark in Dąbki and a football camp in Namibia, as well as courthouses, kindergartens and shopping centres. Along the way I earned a PRINCE2 certificate.

Even then I reached for new tools: photogrammetry, lidar, 3D reconstruction, GIS, GDAL and PDAL, point cloud classification and public spatial data in the design process. Selected projects.

Programming

I write mostly in Python, also in C#, Rust and C. I build Revit and Blender add-ons, web services in FastAPI and SvelteKit, and data pipelines for IFC models and point clouds. It started with the MITx 6.00x course and scripts that sped up my own work; over time they grew into tools for whole offices. I work on Linux and set up and run my own servers. Code.

Blender and open source

3D visualisation and animation are my second passion. Blender, the free and open source 3D suite, and its community helped me take architectural visualisation a step further. I wrote the Simple Asset Manager and Solar Analysis add-ons for it. I believe in open source, free knowledge and sharing know-how and experience. Gallery.

Other

After hours I split my time between learning and friends. Plus acrobatics, salsa, travelling, cycling, horse riding and, as a hobby, Icelandic.
